All my kids talk about getting every year for Christmas is video games if they don’t go downstairs and find Gears of War 2 under our new flocked christmas tree I do not know how they will survive. It makes me a little nuts since I do all I can to get my kids outdoors. I would prefer to get them something like new football equipment or bikes, really anything they can do outside. Oh well I guess you just learn that kids are kids. Fighting with them is just too much work.

After saying that I guess I should get to the point that I’ve developed a few ways to control their television addiction. I do a couple of things in an effort to force them outside. The first way I try to accomplish my goal is by limiting time that can be spent in front of them television to only one hour per day. I have discovered that limiting the time is key to everything else because then they know time above and beyond that is to be earned. I do give them some ways to earn more time in front of the television. That leads me to talk about trick number two. They can get more television time by either doing chores or spending time outside. The chores is nice for me and generally has a pretty good payoff for them. I set it up so it ends with one hour of chores earning one hour of television time.

The second way they earn time, by going outside, is a little less rewarding. For every hour they spend outside they get fifteen minutes of video games. Like I say this isn’t a huge payoff, but I also don’t really think asking them to be outside is a huge thing to ask. That option works the best of their long Saturdays where they spend the majority of the day outside anyway. They can play outdoors for the day on Saturday and then spend the night playing video games. Realistically a night of playing games and watching movies isn’t so bad after a full day outside.

That being said I’m ok with one or two ending up under flocked christmas tree this year if it has the effect of getting my brats outside and getting some stuff done around the house for me. I hope they like their games, because I am going to like my “gift” of a little more control around the house.

Instead of a dough roller and dolls now women are filling their hands with remotes and consoles. This isn’t me complaining about the domestic rolls women and men normally hold, but because of a few things. Here is the list on why more women are playing video games.

Really all I use my computer for is my investing software, but my wife likes to play games to that lead me to my question. First of them is the growing interest and involvement in technology. More girls are learning about new and varied fields, leading them to higher self esteem and knowing they can do whatever boys can. When we say technology, not only washing machines, vacuum cleaners and microwave ovens are the things that women are involved with. The new graphics and sound effects in video games are fascinating and do not escape the attention of women. They are not afraid to tinker with the buttons or make mistakes, so long as they are learning.

A big factor is financial stability. As girls hold paying jobs they can both afford to play video games, and deserve to as a stress reliever. However, be assured that there are times the practical nature would kick in and prefer for equipment far more essential to everyday chores before indulging in the cyber entertainment. This is a major reason why more girls are playing xBox as it is one of the negatives of achievement.

The third major reason is that game development has focused a lot more on women than it used to. A lot of games revolve around action and adventure, most common of which are set in the war field. There are a lot of women in the world (ha ha yeah 52%) so game developers are starting to see this large potential market, and so more games are being created for them. More games today are targeted at the female demographic with softer graphics and story-lines, even tho these games are also popular with many males.

The number four reason is pure enjoyment, the same reason as most men. Sewing, cooking and cleaning are no longer an area of “entertainment” for women, so their hobbies have grown along with the forwarding of technology. I’m never surprised when I see a woman with a gaming console playing it during a her free time.

A fifth reason behind this females video game phenomena is that a lot of females like to be in direct competition with men. Although this competition is friendly, they take place and all try to get a high achievement and that achievement makes them winners.

The way that society thinks has changed. Gone are the days where men are dumbfounded - or even furious on occasion - upon finding women whose interest pushes far from the four walls of their house. When more girls play video games, there is now a point of interest shed between males and females that they can compete in. Adding up video games in the list of introductory topics such as books, politics, sports and movies can also stimulate conversation on a first date. Apart from social benefits of women being able to play video games, the enjoyment probably outweighs any benefit by giving women a good avenue of expression and a place to vent their frustration. If things keep going like this I will have to for christmas find a copy of cheap legend of zelda.

The more vivid the graphics, the better. All of the video game makers are now competing to get the most sales, and that forces them to use the newest technology. With characters that come almost nearly to life, the gamers are bombarded with details that lead others to believe they would rather not see - too much blood for example. Places like walmart get these games off their shelves as fast as they can stock them, but it leaves some people saying that the games are too violent?

Naturally, there are two opposing sides on this question. On the first hand there are people who believe that video games are ok the way they are. Their reason is that discipline depends on the player and that this would determine up to what extent the influence could be. It is a battle of self-control and putting things in the right perspective. If people get more violent after a few hours of gaming then maybe it’s their lack of dicipline, rather than the game causing the problems.

On the flipside of the coin, that argment is the same as the people who do think games are too violent make. This strong emotion is triggered by the hard core action and realistic effects that some have difficulty detaching their selves from it. Reality can only be shown as how things are, while it is sometimes exagerated, it really need to be based on real life.

There is an argument to be made either way, but we still don’t know if it really causes gamers to turn violent. The debate can go on, but to be helpful to gamers, there are several ways with which any retaining effects can be prevented. {Firstly everyone should have a maximum number of hours dedicated to video games every day}. These are especially for people who have not much will-power to identify reality from not. Following a schedule will help you learn that discipline.

Secondly is to know when enough is enough. As soon as you find yourself too highly involved in the death of a character or in a loss against an opponent, breathe. It has the dual effect of clearing your mind and normalizing the gamers body after an adrenaline surge. Third is for parents, who are allowing their kids to play video games. From an early age in life, children need to be tought dicipline and structure. Once a child has been affected then the effects are hard to remove, so parents need to be vigilant. If you want a game that is fun and not overly violent then you should think about buy legend of zelda namely buy oracle of seasons.

Being objective can be hard when you are talking about violence and tech as there are many opinions. What can be sure, though, is that individual’s should have their own mastery of technology so that thy won’t have to ask if video games are too violent.
