Residents living close to Glasgow’s busy airport have been disappointed by the news that only two properties actually qualify for help with the cost of sound insulation.

The British Airports Authority have set a limit of 66 decibels which is about the loudness of a normal conversation. The level at which sustained exposure can result in hearing loss is around 90 to 95 decibels.

Glasgow airport have conceded that very few people would actually receive help under their scheme to help local residents with the cost of double glazing. The airport is planning to increase its ‘Flightpath Fund’ in 2010 to £150,000 to provide general help to communities affected by noise pollution. This fund is likely to be helpful to various public properties but will be of no help to local residents who want to insulate their homes from the noise pollution.

Residents living close to the airport and the various Glasgow airport parking areas have been urged to voice their views as BAA strive for greater community involvement in their airport noise consultation.
